Skokie Community Fund Seeks Collaborative Proposals for Its 2014/15 Grant Cycle
The Skokie Community Fund (the Fund) announced today that it is seeking collaborative proposals for capacity-building and program grants for its 2014/15 grant cycle. The proposal application form is available on the Fund website: www.skokiecommunityfund.org.
Proposals will be accepted through midnight on Tuesday, September 9, 2014.
To qualify, two organizations must co-apply to either provide services to Skokie
residents or build capacity for greater service to Skokie residents. One of the two coapplicants must be a 501(c)(3) organization, a school, or a government entity. The maximum grant amount awarded will be $5,000. The Fund intends to award $25,000 during this inaugural grant cycle.
The Fund requests proposals addressing any aspect of community including arts and culture, basic human needs, community development, early childhood education/early learning, education, environment, family support/counseling, health, housing, seniors, workforce development, or youth. “We are thrilled to support collaboration in Skokie with this first-ever grant cycle,” says Executive Director, Kristin Winter.
Grants will be awarded in October 2014 for use in the 2015 calendar year.
About the Skokie Community Fund
The Skokie Community Fund (www.skokiecommunityfund.org) was established in 2010 by a small group of Skokie residents to foster a supportive, engaged, and dynamic community in Skokie through meaningful giving, collaboration, and community programming. The Fund has engaged the following steering committee members to guide its initial outreach efforts in the community: Carol Dammrich, Maria Franks, Gene Griffin, Kevin Mott, and Jim Szczepaniak.
The Fund is a proud affiliate of the Evanston Community Foundation, a 501(c)(3)
organization that is in compliance with national standards for U.S. Community
Foundations.

Networking Tip of the Week – Network Capital
One of the qualities that you want in your networking partners is a sense of obligation to return assistance received and they should expect the same from you. Think about how you can help your contacts. Give referrals and make introductions within your network; especially between non-competitors who share a similar client base. Not only will you be helping out your contacts but you’ll also be respected for having high “network capital”, or in other words, knowing the right people.
